How DAR Can Help Search for Your Revolutionary War Patriot
Tuesday, July 14
6:30pm - 8:00pm
In this presentation, Bobbi Carleton—Maryland’s State Chair for Lineage Research for the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR)—will share helpful tips for using the DAR Genealogical Research System (GRS). The GRS is a free collection of databases that provides access to the extensive materials amassed by the DAR since its founding in 1890, supporting both general genealogical research and the DAR membership process. Bobbi will also highlight additional resources, including Ancestry, FamilySearch, Maryland land records, and the Maryland State Archives, and demonstrate how these tools can work together to help you identify and document your patriot ancestor.
Bobbi Carleton has been an active member of the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution for over a decade. Her leadership roles include serving as Chapter Regent, First Vice Regent, and Registrar of the Peggy Stewart Tea Party Chapter. She currently serves as Maryland’s State Chair for Lineage Research, as well as a Continental Congress Balcony Volunteer and Team Leader. In addition, she is a member of the Maryland State Application Team and the National Lineage Research Committee and has previously contributed to the National Supplemental Indexing Team and the National Application Verification Support Committee.
Her areas of expertise include genetic genealogy, as well as German, Swiss, Colonial-era, and African American research. She has conducted genealogical research for the television program Who Do You Think You Are? (Australia) and maintains membership in several historical, genealogical and lineage organizations, including the Germanic Genealogical Society and the National Genealogical Society.
